About

Hill House Gallery is an idea that has evolved over a number of years. Initially the building which houses the gallery was a derelict ruin. It needed major building work and restoration to prevent it from collapsing completely. Standing on the site of medieval cottages this old stable had varied uses through hundreds of years. Once restored the building evolved into a quirky multi purpose space ideally suited the opportunity to show art and applied art.

This is not a conventional gallery that is open all the time. It is a space which is used to show interesting combinations of art work in an informal and welcoming setting four or five times a year.

Each show is different, that’s the fun of it. A project, a local event, an interesting combination of work can spark off an idea for a show. The work will be available for a few days or a few weeks.

The buying experience is very important to us. We want you to enjoy Middleham, enjoy the gallery and chose something which is meaningful and special to you.

Unlike a conventional gallery, once you buy a picture we take it off the wall, wrap it and you take it away (assuming it will fit in your car). So the exhibitions are dynamic and constantly changing.

Behind the Gallery is a lovely garden. It is secluded and contained within old Georgian stone wall. On occasions this garden is open for visitors to enjoy. This is usually when we are helping to raise money for a local good cause.
